Elite Treats and "Eat Me" Sweets

Like many of us, my healthy eating habits got a little um...derailed during the pandemic. Couple that with a drastic reduction in activity level and I found myself with about five extra pounds around my middle. While I realize that sounds like a first world problem, it wasn't so much the amount of weight as the way I felt--namely sluggish, tired and bloated. Ugh--time to hit reset! Giving up sweets altogether is just not something I'm willing to do--life is short and I love chocolate. However, all things in moderation so I'm always searching for alternate ways to satisfy my sweet tooth that are healthier than my favorite homemade chocolate chip cookies. I recently discovered two treats that accomplish that goal and, as an added bonus, give me a little boost of energy to carry me between workouts.

The first is a Cinnamon Sugar Protein Donut from Elite.Available locally at Zedric's, these gluten-free, soy-free snacks pack 12 grams of protein and 1 gram of sugar in each low net carb, 240 calorie treat. Plus, they are the size of a "real" donut! I love them for breakfast with my coffee, or as a little fuel between classes.

The second is a brownie from Eat Me Guilt Free ( I know, I know...I didn't name 'em). One of my best girlfriends brought me one of goodies recently and I was hooked! At just 170 calories, these dense, decadent desserts are low in carbs and sugar and high in protein--22 grams per brownie to be exact. With several flavors to choose from, my personal favorite is the seasonal Pumpkin Spice--since I don't usually like pumpkin that should tell you how good these are! My friend swears by the Tuxedo, a chocolate peanut butter blend that is on my list to try. The only downside to these is that they are only available online, so you can't get that instant gratification--but sometimes the best things in life are worth the wait.
